Recognizing Nursing Excellence Investing in Technology People and Service Jessica Jessica Saliba RN and Lisa Meacham RN have worked in the Cardiac Catheterization Cath Lab at Southwest General for more than 10 years. Through their work treating patients suffering from heart and vascular related conditions they have developed not only a strong personal friendship but also an extensive interest in theelectrical systemof the heartparticularly surrounding the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. Working at Southwest General feels like home. Spending several hours a dayand sometimes several hours throughout the nightwith your coworkers makes them feel like family. It is easy to love what you do when you are surrounded by such caring and compassionate people. We are truly blessed to be given the opportunity to work in an area with such skilled physicians and staff. Drs. Bartolomeo Giannattasio and James Ramicone have been instrumental in offering cryoablation as a treatment option for patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. By providing this advanced new technology here at Southwest General we give patients a wonderful option to have their treatment done close to homeat a facility with a physician they know and trust. Cardiac procedures often can bring out fears and anxiety in patients. It is rewarding to play a part in taking care of patients making them feel comfortable and safe. Southwest General continues to be on the cutting edge of many cardiovascular procedures including cryoablation for AFib patients. To learn more about heart and vascular services provided at Southwest General visit On April 29 2015 the Southwest Community Health Foundation honored seven exceptional Southwest General nursing staff members as the recipients of its inaugural Nursing Education Scholarship Award. A total of 10000 in tuition assistance was awarded to the recipients following a formal application and review process. Scholarships ranged from 1000 to 2500 each. Spearheaded by Mark Panigutti MD president of the Southwest General Medical Staff and Marti Bauschka RN MSN vice president Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer scholarship awards provide significant support in the continued professional development of outstanding caregiverscurrent and aspiring nurses alike.
